Bayswater

  • Held by: Heidi Victoria, Liberal
  • Since: 2006
  • Swing at 2010 election: +7.7 per cent
  • Redistribution details: The seat’s Liberal margin has notionally fallen to around 6.8 per cent as a result of extensive changes to the seat’s boundaries. It has lost most of Ringwood and Wantirna and picked up parts of South Kilsyth, Bayswater North, The Basin and Boronia.
  • Size of electorate: 40 sq km

KEY COMMENTS: Bayswater tends Liberal but did have a four year dalliance with Labor between 2002 and 2006 after the second election win by then premier Steve Bracks. The electoral redistribution has pushed the seat of Bayswater towards the Dandenongs and away from its old western boundary, which had been largely defined by the East Link tollway. Now the seat fans east and north into the neighbouring areas of Monbulk and Kilsyth, capturing Labor voters who should reduce Liberal frontbencher Heidi Victoria’s primary vote.
